AGM - 7th April 2010
08/03/10

We will be holding our Annual General Meeting on 7th April at 5:30pm. We are grateful to BT for providing a venue as follows:

BT PLC
5 Brindley Place

Birmingham
B1 2BL

In advance of the AGM, please review the list of roles available for 2010/2011, and submit any nominations for either yourself or someone else you would like to run for any of the committee roles. You can find a list of these roles and their key responsibilities here.

Note that we no longer have placeholders for generic "support roles" on the committee - however we will keep a list of reserve volunteers to take on specific tasks as and when needed. Please let us know by email if you would be interested in being on this list.

After you have reviewed the roles, you can submit your nominations for the new committee here.

Please note: you must be a member of Midland LGBT to vote, stand or nominate someone to join the committee. Membership forms can be found here.

Nominations are open until 31st March, after which a list of nominees will be published. If any roles are unrepresented (no one nominated) or uncontested (only one person nominated), nominations will be extended to 5th April.

Voting will take place by ballot in person at the AGM - however if you're not able to attend, you can let us know your voting choices via email, after the list of nominees has been published as per the dates above. We will send more details about how to do this when voting opens (please be aware that you can only vote for each role once - online votes cannot be recast in person at the AGM).

Apart from electing next year's committee, at the AGM we will also be voting to adopt a revised constitution for the committee. Though we will be presenting the key changes at the AGM itself, we would invite you to read the new constitution in advance. The proposed new version can be found here.

Obviously it's still in draft with no "agreed on" date listed, as the AGM has yet to take place. If you have any changes you'd like to suggest for this document before we finalise it, please let us know in advance via the "contact us" form. All suggested changes will be discussed at the AGM.

On another note, I'd like to say thanks to everyone who came to the Coventry social last week - it was fantastic to see so many new faces; I hope you had as good a time as I did and will be joining us for future events!

Upcoming events and news
09/11/09

Sorry for the radio silence of late - this is due to the exciting news that Midland LGBT is moving to a new website! The new site will be launched hopefully before Christmas and will include exciting features such as a new and more user friendly members' forum, and introduce a new membership scheme that will allow you to get the most out of Midland LGBT depending on your needs from the network.

In the meantime, we have been planning for our next event which will be held on Friday 11th December between 10:45 and 14:00 at West Midlands Police Service HQ in Birmingham.

The event is kindly sponsored by National Grid and introduces us to the concept of a Human Library. Keynote speaker Vernal Scott and other LGBT people with identities that span more than one recognised "minority" can be "checked out" of the human library and will talk about their personal experiences in and outside of the workplace. This will hopefully provide some thought provoking insight for both HR and diversity professionals, and for any of us that work alongside a diverse range of colleagues.

The event is free for Midland LGBT network members to attend - however we would ask that you register your attendance for catering and security purposes by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Don't worry if you can't make a daytime event - we will also be following up with an informal social meeting (with drinks!) for network members in the evening on the same day. Details coming soon.

Don't forget - if you hear of (or are involved in) any local events that you would like us to publicise, then please contact us.
