Upcoming events and news
09/11/09
Sorry for the radio silence of late - this is due to the exciting news that Midland LGBT is moving to a new website! The new site will be launched hopefully before Christmas and will include exciting features such as a new and more user friendly members' forum, and introduce a new membership scheme that will allow you to get the most out of Midland LGBT depending on your needs from the network.
In the meantime, we have been planning for our next event which will be held on Friday 11th December between 10:45 and 14:00 at West Midlands Police Service HQ in Birmingham.
The event is kindly sponsored by National Grid and introduces us to the concept of a Human Library. Keynote speaker Vernal Scott and other LGBT people with identities that span more than one recognised "minority" can be "checked out" of the human library and will talk about their personal experiences in and outside of the workplace. This will hopefully provide some thought provoking insight for both HR and diversity professionals, and for any of us that work alongside a diverse range of colleagues.
The event is free for Midland LGBT network members to attend - however we would ask that you register your attendance for catering and security purposes by emailing

.
Don't worry if you can't make a daytime event - we will also be following up with an informal social meeting (with drinks!) for network members in the evening on the same day. Details coming soon.
Don't forget - if you hear of (or are involved in) any local events that you would like us to publicise, then please contact us.

Stonewall focus groups on bisexuality - can you help?
02/06/09
Stonewall is producing a guide, kindly supported by the Home Office, to help employers be more inclusive of bisexual staff. They are talking to a numberof bisexual people and organisations about some of the issues they encounter and the things they would like to see in their workplace. Professor Gill Valentine and Dr Nichola Wood, on behalf of Stonewall, will also be conducting a series of focus groups with bisexual staff. If you are bisexual and work for a Stonewall Diversity Champion, please think about taking part in one of the groups. If you know someone who might be interested, please let them know.
The results of the focus groups, and other interviews, will be presented in a guide for employers. The guide will be launched at an event in the Home Office in September 2009.
Your contribution to the focus group will be entirely anonymous - findings will not be tied to specific organisations nor will individual participants be identified in the report.
The four focus groups will be held in the following locations:
London Focus Group: Tuesday 2 June 5:00-7:00pm Stonewall London Office, 14th Floor, Tower Building, York Road, Waterloo, SE1 7NX
Edinburgh Focus Group: Friday 19 June 2:00-4:00pm Stonewall Edinburgh Office, 9 Howe Street, Edinburgh, EH3 6TE
Cardiff Focus Group: Monday 22 June 4:00-6:00pm Stonewall Cymru Office, Media Room, Transport House, 1 Cathedral Road, Cardiff, CF11 9SB
Leeds Focus Group: Tuesday 23 June 5:00-7:00pm Leeds Social Science Institute, University of Leeds, Woodhouse Lane, Leeds, LS2 9JT
